Up early to make the 5 am high tide!

And away we go!

Finally, after a decade of work, we were able to drop lines and push the throttle forward (and ironically the gear lever backward but that’s a story for the episode…)

We were all up early to make the 5 am high tide (and we didn’t make it but went anyway at 10:30 am and cleared the river mud by 4”).

Ropes away and we idled from the berth, she does 2.9knots in gear with throttle at idle. Once clear of the other boats in the marina and with a few meters of water below the keel we bumped her up to 5 knots, then 6. RPM stopped displaying on the bridge but she was just ticking over around 900ish RPM at that speed.

We did a few basic runs in the river channel and then anchored up to give the boat a really good checkover.

The launch was a success!

She’s in!

6:30 am the launch team assembled, Patrick with his red tugboat, with Duncan on the deck to handle lines.

The wind was around 8knots just off the starboard bow which was quite handy as it would push us toward the berth.

Brupeg was lowered down into the water and gently pulled forward by Salonika.

We had stern lines organized and tied off on Brupeg but led forward to the bow where we lowered them down to Tom (US NAVY CVN78 aviation maintainer) in the smallest boat of the fleet, to be towed around to the berth location.Continue reading

2 Days until Brupeg is back in the water. It’s been almost a decade rebuilding this boat back from a Sunken fishing trawler, into an ultra-long-range polar expedition vessel.
